Subaru Car Exhibit
A car garage-themed exhibit was created for the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum, aimed at promoting awareness of green energy and fostering interest in careers within the automotive industry. I created the graphic design, illustration, and CAD blueprints for the project, with fabrication carried out by Matt Merton.
With my design, I aimed to blur the space between indoor and outdoor elements, creating a unity within the space for nature and automotive themes. I wanted this unity to convey the message of electric cars and our shared goal of protecting the natural world. The interactive components of the exhibit were designed to educate children about solar energy, AC & DC power systems, and the process of using stored power from the house battery to charge the electric vehicle.
I designed and 3D modeled the interactive engine components for the car. I opted to create a shape puzzle within the car's engine, aiming to educate kids about shape recognition while fostering imaginative role-play experiences. To enhance engagement, I included numerous small interactive elements to encourage exploration and discovery. Collaborating closely with the fabricators tasked with building the car, I ensured the design's durability and suitability for children's play.
Subaru wanted the charging station to be branded with Subaru branding. Since this didn’t exist I redesigned the charger, focusing on using the visual language that Subaru incorporates into their branding. Once the concept was finalized, CAD drawings were created so fabrication could start. Here is a sample of some of my final drawings, the car lift, house battery, podium, and tire stand also had drawings created for their production. Once the CAD drawings were finished final artwork was created for the bush flats as well as graphic design. I’ve included a sample of some of the graphic elements below.
